MORKIE Breed Standards
Origin and Purpose
This hybrid was born from a mix of Maltese and Yorkshire. We can find two distinct origins. The first one coming from the United States and the second one of Canada, more precisely in Quebec. First one appeared in 90's and has fuzzy characteristics such as: hanging or down ears, the silky and straight coat, colors from black and tan to tricolor and, generally, cuted tail. Impossible to find the creators of this designer dog because the only interest is to obtain F1 type popularized, in the same wave as the " doodles" , by Americans. The mix remained popular because it's non shedding coat, small size and interesting " look". On the other hand, the temperament differs, individualy, passing from calm and soft to active and nervous, all, however, with a remarkable intelligence.
The second comes from (fire) Mrs. Gaétane Blanchette of St-Lin, impassioned breeder, who named it " Linois". Linois is small size, has silky and long coat, is of color solid blond to champagne but has straight ears and short tail as the yorkshire. This type has more the yokshire temperament active and playful with a remarkable intelligence. And... Here are two different ways took by the same mixed between these two breeds. The Morkie type has'nt any official standard, at this day, and still have the same looking as sometime, the yorkshire or maltese. The Linois took the Yorkshire looking.
*To know...*
The Morkie is not a "mutt" as it's a mixed between two pure breed. "Mutts" are a mix from lots of breeds and are called like that when it become hard to find the original mix.
